2017 is the 33nd year that Boy Scout Troop #112 has coordinated a Holiday Food and Gift Basket program in Glide.   With the help of numerous community volunteers, the troop brings holiday cheer to hundreds of Glide area residents.

Scouting for Food

Each year a large number of the Glide community join Troop 112 in their Holiday endeavor.  Countless community members drop off food goods, bring gifts for children and seniors, or donate dollars to help make this program the unbelievable success it is.   Even the Glide Elementary School jumped on the band wagon.  They created Christmas cards to be delivered with each box.  This program enables us all to experience the true spirit of Christmas.

The delivery location once again  was at Glide High School.  It offers the convenience of a lot more space.  And that is one thing this program needs -- all of those groceries take up a lot of space.  This year a total of 213 households were served and 143 children and 19 seniors received gifts.

Friday morning starts off with a room full of empty boxes.

Then the crew of Scouts and volunteers jump into action.

Everybody is hauling supplies into the building

What teamwork!

Once the groceries are all in the building, it is time to fill boxes.

The Glide High School Honor Society joins in the festivities.

The process generates a lot of cardboard, paper, and plastic.
Stu Carlson, the scoutmaster, tears down boxes.

Oil en route to the boxes.

By the end of the day, all the boxes are filled and waiting for Saturday delivery.

Perishable items like cheese, butter, and frozen pies
are added at the last minute by community volunteers.

Now the filled boxes start leaving the building.

These boxes will be loaded into a recipient's
vehicle outside the gym.

These boxes will be delivered right to the recipient's door.

Specific delivery instructions are given.
Many of the rural addresses are not easy to find.

Scouts really enjoy this special way of helping others.
