The Workaway Adventure Continues
September, 2019 |
|
This Workaway adventure was a little different
from all the previous experiences. Sergio and Eva, our Spanish
Workaway visitors back in March 2019, came back early in September.
They were cleaning out their van and getting ready to fly back to Spain
at the end of the month. Christie arrived in Roseburg the day
before our Spanish guests were to leave. She met us at Lehne
Farms. Together we picked a LOT of tomatoes and a few other
veggies. The plan was to introduce Christie to home canning --
something she was really interested to learn. Can tomatoes, make
salsa, make spaghetti sauce, put a few roasted peppers in the freezer,
and, of course, make plum jam. That evening Christie did a brain drain on Sergio and Eva. For several years, they had been doing exactly what she wanted to do - international Workaway. Christie wanted to learn the ins and outs of such an undertaking. We all sat around on the deck talking about the two Spaniards' travels and adventures. |

Total failure on the part of the photographers - no real kitchen photos,
or pictures of the end products. After a while we all moved outside for some dead limb clean-up. |

Workaway evening at Long Shadows |
|
We've stayed in touch with Christie. She spent two months in Costa
Rica, in language immersion then a wildlife sanctuary. She came back and was
working in an asylum-seekers' camp at the Texas border when the pandemic
struck and changed everyone's plans. One of these days, Christie hopes to
return to Long Shadows with her sister. Eventually, they want to live in
tiny houses on their own land. Probably, they'll host Workawayers! |
